The Yacht Club was conceived by IWC Schaffhausen as a watch halfway between sporting and elegant, appreciated for a sober style backed by substantial mechanics. This steel example from the 1960s represents its most classic version: period proportions, applied indices, steel hands and a simple, carefully finished dial.
The movement
The calibre given for this reference is the IWC automatic 8541, with 21 jewels and the Pellaton winding system, regarded as very reliable and well finished for its time.
For the collector
The series exists with silvered, white or blue dials; some rarer versions have marbled dials. The crystal is acrylic (plexiglass), as was customary at the time, and the watch is not intended for use in water.
