In Zenith’s production of the early 1970s, the acronym AF/P, visible on the dial together with the brand logo, is traditionally read as “High Frequency / Precision”: it denotes high-frequency movements, designed for steadier and more precise timekeeping than the average of the period.
The AF/P series
AF/P models are often fitted with automatic Zenith/Movado calibres such as the 405 or the 408, which beat at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz). They were produced in several versions and case shapes, tonneau, round or with bolder Space Age lines, in stainless steel or, in the more precious variants, in gold, with date only or with day and date.
The reference
For reference 025.E.792 there are no official Zenith records nor detailed descriptions in the most widely used databases, as is the case for many vintage references. The number may be an internal production or case reference rather than a code used in the commercial catalogues of the period.
