Revex is neither a widely known brand nor a manufacture: it is an assembler that built its watches with supplied movements. The interest of this 1980 example lies in the calibre that powers it, the ETA 2892-2, an automatic movement highly regarded in the watch industry for its reliability and thinness.
The movement
The ETA 2892-2 is a self-winding mechanical movement designed to be slim: 3.6 mm thick, against 5 mm for the more widespread 2824, which allows slimmer cases. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with a power reserve of around 42 hours. It has been produced in several grades of finish and has served as the base for added complications, such as the chronograph (2894) or the GMT (2893). Over the years it has been used by houses such as Omega, Breitling and Panerai.
This example
In an assembled watch the final quality depends, beyond the movement, on the case, dial and assembly. This Revex has a 36 mm gold-plated case, a mineral crystal and a lizard strap; the dial shows hours, minutes, seconds and date.
