The Citizen “Bullhead” is one of the Japanese house’s most recognisable models of the 1970s. The name comes from the shape of the case, which recalls a bull’s head: a design that departs from traditional round or rectangular forms and decisively reflects the sporting spirit of that decade.
The model
The stainless steel case measures 38 x 42 mm, generous dimensions for the period. The dial is that of a chronograph, with dedicated registers, luminous indices and contrasting chronograph hands; around it runs the tachymeter scale, useful for calculating average speed over a known distance. The day of the week and the date complete the indications.
The chronograph
The chronograph is of the flyback type: with a single press of the pusher the hand resets to zero and restarts immediately, without having to stop, reset and restart the measurement. A function designed for timing in succession, which helped to make the Bullhead popular among motorsport enthusiasts and sportsmen.
For the collector
An unmistakable shape, a complete chronograph complication and a stainless steel bracelet with sturdy links: the Bullhead is today a model sought after by collectors of 1970s sports watches.
