The Gefica line was born in the 1980s, commissioned by three hunters whose initials (Geoffroy, Fissore, Canali) gave the model its name. Reference G2989.7 is its chronograph version: a safari-inspired watch that combines the aesthetic of adventure with choices of material unusual in fine watchmaking.
Bronze
The case is bronze, with a steel caseback: a bold choice at the time, intended to avoid reflections while hunting and to give the watch a robust, natural appearance. It is considered among the first bronze wristwatches of fine watchmaking. The case middle is dotted with small spheres and the lugs follow the “Vendôme” design, traits typical of the Genta style.
The model
The 36 mm diameter makes the case compact compared with many modern watches. The dial, in natural tones, has applied luminous indices and well-integrated counters. The automatic movement, signed Gérald Genta, is built on the Valjoux 7750 base and drives hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph, day and date. A sapphire crystal and a fine leather strap complete a watch regarded as a cult piece by Genta enthusiasts and not easy to find.
